Waste disposal at Trail Ridge Landfill is done with protection of the environment in mind. A composite liner / leachate collection system (pdf) is installed at the waste disposal area. It consists of multiple layers that separate the waste from, and protect the environment.
Landfill Liner System
The Trail Ridge Landfill uses a double-liner system. The landfill liner system consists of multiple layers which include six inches of compacted clay, a 60-mil high-density polyethylene (HDPE) secondary liner, a layer of polynet, a non-woven geotextile, a geosynthetic clay liner (bentonite), a 60-mil HDPE primary liner, another layer of polynet and then a layer of non-woven geotextile. See graphic below for all the layers.
