Waste Management, the nation’s largest waste services provider, operates the Trail Ridge Landfill serving the City of Jacksonville and Duval County area of Northeast Florida. The site is owned by the City of Jacksonville, and Waste Management has a life-of-site operational agreement with the city. The site provides environmentally responsible solid waste management to the area and employs 25 people at the landfill.
The site is a Class I landfill permitted to accept non-hazardous municipal solid waste, including household garbage, commercial waste and special waste. Employees are trained to identify nonconforming wastes, which are separated and collected for proper offsite disposal. In addition, Trail Ridge Landfill is permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as a waste tire processing site.
Trail Ridge Landfill receives approximately 2,500 - 3,000 tons of waste daily. The site totals 977 acres of land and currently has a 148-acre “footprint” which serves residential and commercial customers.
Not only does Trail Ridge receive waste, it is home to a beautiful habitat area located on over 900 acres in Duval County. The land is not only rich in a variety of plants, but also abundant with many species of birds and mammals. It is not unusual to spot one of the family of eagles that inhabit the site.
At the Trail Ridge Landfill, we are committed to being a good neighbor and supporting community organizations in order to help make our community cleaner, safer and stronger. The Trail Ridge Landfill has been serving Jacksonville and Duval County for more than 16 years. Waste Management has been serving the City of Jacksonville and Duval County for over 40 years.
